Mapmaking? Empty Mapmaking?

IRl I am an avid consumer of maps, globes, and anything remotely connected to cartography. As You cannot make a profession out of this, I have made it my hobby instead. I draw maps in my spare time, and love studying all kinds of maps, but I recently have wanted to start making them online, but I have had no luck finding any free or decently affordable casual map-making software. Just wondering if any of yall have anything you use?
